Dux of 2011: Brendan Carter
"Attending the 2011 Lorenzo Galli Scholarship was incredibly beneficial to my Italian wine knowledge. Being able to taste an incredible breadth of wines from remarkable producers, rarely seen on Australian shores, alongside elite members of the industry is a truly priceless experience. Scholarships such as this are few and far in between, with chances to dramatically improve one’s Italian wine knowledge being coveted by Australian connoisseurs. The Lorenzo Galli scholarship fosters the upper echelon of Italian wine enthusiasts and provides for a proper, multi-contextual education for the Australian Wine Industry member.
The ultimate prize, a $10,000 scholarship to travel to Italy and meet
the producers themselves was an truly eye-opening experience. Being
able to put faces to labels, and learn directly from Old-World producers with generations of knowledge was incredibly influential to my own winemaking expertise. The chance to foster friends and contacts involved in my industry, in another country is absolutely invaluable. I’m truly thankful to Pamela and Lorenzo Galli for this opportunity."
Brendan Carter was the youngest member of the group, and is studying a Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Adelaide.
